Carpet cleaners vary greatly in terms of equipment used, insurance, experience etc. Make sure you understand your requirements and what will be required of you prior to their arrival. You can view more advice on choosing the right carpet cleaner for the job and the different methods used for different carpets and fabrics below.
Most carpet cleaning companies will use a truck mounted system where the equipment is mounted in their van outside which is a quieter and less obtrusive way of cleaning. Where access does not permit using a truck mount, a portable hot water extraction system will be used.
Rotary carpet cleaners
These work differently to the hot water cleaners described above. The carpet is sprayed with a small amount of cleaning fluid and buffed with a rotary cotton pad. This is a faster but less effective cleaning method for cleaning short pile carpets and carpet tiles like you would find in an office or shop. It is NOT for cleaning loop construction wool carpets which you are likely to have in your home.
Its only once we have our carpets cleaned by a professional do most of us realise that what we are seeing is only a tiny fraction of the soil that a carpet contains. Up to 85 per cent of the dirt the carpet holds is buried deep within the pile. When you consider that a carpet can eventually trap its own weight or more in soil, that's a lot of muck that accumulates over time, not to mention the dust and smell you have got used to but guests will notice.
